Spirit communication by e-mail?
Monday, September 04, 2006

G_Schwartz.jpgARIZONA, UNITED STATES. The latest research project being conducted at an American university involves researchers talking to bereaved people, then sending questions by e-mail to mediums at remote locations. The idea behind the project is that, in this way, the mediums cannot be accused of picking up on visual or auditory clues from the “sitters”. Here’s how it will work… Read More

Police confirm use of psychics
Monday, September 04, 2006

Carol Pate.jpgUNITED STATES. It’s an open secret that police forces around the world make use of psychics, but officially they deny it. However, the makers of the “Psychic Witness” documentary series – shown on cable and satellite TV – have persuaded previously sceptical police officers to testify to the accuracy of psychics used in a number of cases. Read More

Monday, September 04, 2006

ITALY. The body of a woman who had been missing for three years was recovered from lake Como, in September last year, after an Italian psychic pinpointed where the woman would be found. She claimed to have “seen”  the victim plunge into the lake, inside her car, after her family gave her a photograph of the missing woman.

Psychic claims Saddam reward
Monday, September 04, 2006

SaddamCaptured.gifBRAZIL. How did the Americans find Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, hiding in a dug-out on a farm near Tikrit? The obvious answer is that someone close to him tipped off the Coalition forces. Not so, says a Brazilian psychic. He claims to have pinpointed the exact spot where Hussein was captured, and now he’s claiming the $25 million reward offered by the US Government. Read More

Alternative medicine ‘unproven and disproved’
Monday, September 04, 2006

GENEVA and LONDON. A group of UK doctors and surgeons have joined forces to produce a letter, which has been sent to every National Health Service (NHS) trust in the country urging them to reject funding for alternative medicine, which they describe as “unproven and disproved”. It is probably no coincidence that the letter – said to have been organised by Michael Baum, emeritus professor of surgery at University College, London – made headlines just as Prince Charles addressed the World Health Organisation’s decision-making Assembly in Geneva, defending the use of alternative or holistic therapies.

… and prayer ‘does not heal’
Monday, September 04, 2006

UNITED STATES. A decade-long study into the effect of prayer on patients who have undergone heart surgery has found no evidence that they benefit from the experience. In fact, one surprising conclusion was that the 1,800 patients suffered a noticeably higher rate of complications. Despite that, one of the co-authors of the study has admitted that it “did not move us forward or backward” in understanding the effects of prayer.

AUSTRALIA. In a time of widespread drought in various countries, it’s good to learn of a recent striking success by a water diviner, using no more than a couple of rods and the ability to “tune in” to flowing water beneath his feeet. Read More

Doubts about near-death study
Monday, September 04, 2006

UNITED STATES. Journalists love to pour scorn on long held beliefs – even if it means conveniently ignoring accumulated evidence from other sources. So when a team of US medics studied 55 people who had reported near-death experiences and compared them with 55 people who had not – discovering in the process that the former were more likely to have less clearly defined boundaries between sleeping and waking – the news media had a field day. And, as often happens, they got it wrong.... Read More

‘Bridey Murphy’ witness remembers
Monday, September 04, 2006

hypnotist.gifUNITED STATES. It is half a century since the classic “Bridey Murphy” story of reincarnation, obtained under hypnosis, was first published. It caused a sensation. Sceptics ridiculed it or dismissed it as a hoax but fair-minded analysts have since concluded that it stands alongside some of the best evidence for rebirth. Hazel Higgins, the former wife of hypnotist Morey Bernstein, has recently talked about those momentous sessions. Read More

Dream of murder proved right?
Monday, September 04, 2006

UNITED STATES. When a man running for office on a local council in Alabama, US, accused a rival of wife murder, it seemed like a case of political jealousy. And the only evidence he had for the allegation was that he had twice dreamed of the murder. Five years later, however, his dream is being taken seriously. Read More
