60-year celebration of UFOs and Roswell

 GLOBAL NEWS. If you hadn’t already realised it, this is the 60th anniversary not only of “flying saucers” (now referred to more accurately as unidentified flying objects, or UFOs) streaking into the headlines, but also the reported crash of an alien spacecraft at Roswell. Despite reports in the 1990s that UFO groups were closing down because of a lack of sightings, unidentified aerial objects are back with a vengeance. Will £1m bet prove existence of after-life?

 GLASTONBURY. English businessman and psychical researcher Ross Hemsworth says he is so confident that he will soon prove life after death that he has placed a bet with bookmaker William Hill that could net him £1 million. But he has only until the end of this year to produce the evidence. Meanwhile, cynics and sceptics are suggesting that the bet is just a cheap way of getting publicity for a new book. He has had to hand over just £100 to the bookmakers who have given him odds of 10,000 to one. Read More

Gettysburg ghosts are big attraction

 UNITED STATES. Ghosts have never been more popular. The public seems to have an insatiable appetite for a phenomenon that is largely invisible and whose reality has yet to be confirmed by science. Buddhist lama reborn into MySpace

The 17th Karmapa Trinlay Thaye Dorje – also known as the Black Hat Lama of Tibet – has joined the social networking phenomenon, MySpace, and gave an “e-blessing” to the British public via a video on the Internet site, before his UK visit earlier this month. The 24-year-old, who Buddhists believe is the 17th reincarnation of the leader of the Karma Kagyu tradition, reveals in his blog that he’s a high tech lama with modern tastes. Read More

Nessie: new video and £1m prize offer

 SCOTLAND. For a creature that may not even exist, Nessie – the Loch Ness Monster – has a remarkable ability to grab the headlines. He’s back in the news following a new video that shows a fast moving object travelling across the Scottish loch, just below the surface. And UK bookmaker, William Hill, is behind a scheme to issue cameras to up to 50,000 people, during a rock festival on the loch’s bank, with a £1m prize for photographic evidence of Nessie’s existence.
