Former ISF president found guilty of child rape

 SWEDEN. Mervyn Johnson, a medium and healer who was appointed president of the International Spiritualist Federation (ISF) in August last year, has been found guilty by a Swedish court of child rape. He has been sentenced to five years in prison. Johnson is to appeal against the conviction next month. The ISF, which suspended his position as president after he was arrested in November, has now accepted his resignation and is in the process of electing a successor.

Baby mind reader rises to the challenge

 UNITED KINGDOM. Derek Ogilvie, a British medium who claims to be able to read babies’ minds – a sort of “child whisperer” – is eager to relieve the James Randi Educational Foundation (JREF) of $1 million by proving his psychic abilities are real. No formal application has yet been made but his acceptance of the challenge, if it goes ahead, is likely to be the subject of a television documentary. Psychic surgeon or misguided Messiah?

 UNITED KINGDOM. What are we to make of Stephen Turoff – a man who began as a psychic reader, developed into a “psychic surgeon” and is now apparently evolving into a Messiah before our very eyes? Unfortunately, a BBC 2 television documentary about his claims, shown on 15 January 2007 as part of the fascinating series Trust Me I’m A Healer, failed to come up with answers. Shawn Hornbeck (right) went missing in 2002, while riding his bicycle
to a friend’s house in Richwood, Missouri, Sylvia Browne and James Van
Praagh – regarded by many as the top US psychics – told his parents
