ISF elects new vice president and issues statement

Bill Parsons.jpgENGLAND. Following the resignation of Garth Willey as vice president of the International Spiritualist Federation (ISF) – see ISF vice president resigns over rape case decisions – the federation’s treasurer, Bill Parkins, has been appointed to that position.

Following such a resignation, ISF rules require an Executive Committee (EC) member to take over the position.

Bill Parkins, having received the second highest number of votes in the election for vice president, has accepted the invitation from ISF president Ann Luck and the majority of other EC members to step into the vacant position until the next Congress.

Bill Parkins says he will not stand as treasurer at this year’s Congress meeting, when officers are elected.

In response to Garth Willey’s resignation, the ISF also issued a statement on 25 February saying that its Executive Committee (EC) “does not wish to comment on the issues with our ex-president, who resigned in early 2007, or to have printed under the name of the ISF any media reports concerning him”.

It adds: “The EC disassociates itself from the personal opinions expressed by Mr Garth Willey on these matters. A majority decision was made by the EC to visit Sweden in 2009, and our liaison officer in Sweden, along with other ISF members from Sweden, want to move forward and build up the ISF once more in their country.

“Surely we should respect our members’ wishes and attend their country. The EC do feel that in the light of our motto, ‘Strength through Unity’, we should all work together in love and harmony.”
